The Center for Hospitality Research offers a wide variety of accessible reports aimed at providing specific approaches for addressing industry issues. The reports are written by faculty researchers at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration and elsewhere, with a goal of answering specific questions facing the industry. Based on their direct contact with industry leaders, CHR experts explain the implications of their studies for the reader’s benefit. All CHR reports are offered at no charge as a service to the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CHR also provides research grants to faculty across the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business who are researching topics of interest and importance to the hospitality, travel, and service industries. Please review our current funding opportunities page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Types of publications<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Research brief<\/strong>
A summary of the findings and implications of a recently published or accepted paper. No longer than two pages, a brief should clearly and concisely explain the major results of the paper and their relevance and usefulness to the hospitality industry. Briefs should be written for a broad, non-academic audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Case study<\/strong>
A type of publication that describes a real or fictitious hospitality-related business situation or dilemma that illustrates a concept or theory. A case study should include the minimal amount of background information necessary for undergraduate- or graduate-level students to apply their existing knowledge to work out the case. Tables, charts, and graphs are helpful, but the textual details should not be overexplanatory or give too much away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indices<\/strong>
A recurring record of data pertinent to the hospitality industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Roundtable proceeding<\/strong>
A concise, specific précis highlighting key points and essential lessons from a roundtable. Like a report, a proceeding should be written with a practitioner audience in mind and focus on actionable suggestions from the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Format and submission guidelines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
Prospective authors should review the submission guidelines below before submitting a manuscript. Manuscripts must meet formatting and content standards to be considered for review. Authors are strongly encouraged to engage an outside copy editor prior to submitting a manuscript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Manuscripts must be written in standard American English and prepared according to the Chicago Manual of Style. Sources must be cited using notes with full citations. The writing style should be direct, vigorous, in the active voice, and employ simple declarative sentences. Manuscripts should be prepared with the knowledge that the intended audience is one of practitioners and not academics. All author identification must be removed from the manuscript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
