Infested and dying ash trees provide an enormous and untapped resource for sustainable wood construction. In collaboration with glued laminated timber manufacturer UNALAM, RCL has developed innovative methods to reuse EAB\u2010infested timber. By introducing high precision robotic fabrication technology, researchers have created a material\u2010saving manufacturing process to transform \u201cash waste wood\u201d into a useful and high\u2010tech engineered wood product. The SGE Intensive team will evaluate the market viability of two innovative wood products: 1) Glulam beams, an engineered wood product made of wood laminations; and 2) Cross\u2010Laminated\u2010Timber (CLT), large\u2010scale and prefabricated solid engineered wood panels. The team will need to evaluate the sustainability benefits and economic implications of using EAB\u2010infested timber (as opposed to commercially available softwoods) for current CLT and Glulam manufacturing processes, as well as the additional sustainability benefits and economic implications of utilizing the SLIM\u2010LAM technique, a manufacturing process developed by Cornell RCL which reduces material waste and weight of components through robotic fabrication, introducing further carbon savings and construction sustainability benefits.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":14497,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"sponsor_industry":[865,860,871],"sponsor_region":[879],"class_list":["post-14496","sponsored-project","type-sponsored-project","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","sponsor_industry-manufacturing-industrials","sponsor_industry-social-enterprise","sponsor_industry-technology","sponsor_region-us-canada"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v28.2 (Yoast SEO v28.2) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-premium-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>Technology Commercialization - Centers &amp;
