2025 CICER Summer Program in Business, Economics & Data Analytics
The Cornell Institute for China Economic Research (CICER) has been hosting an annual summer program in business & economics since 2017. Students take interactive courses in business, economics, and big data & data analytics. They also attend academic seminars, engage in discussion-based activities, and consult with Cornell’s elite faculty and students on college applications and choosing majors. This program offers students a great opportunity to experience the Ivy League academic environment and learn about cutting-edge research from Cornell’s outstanding researchers, as well as make new friends!
This two-week summer program will start and end on 14 July 2025 and 26 July 2025 respectively. We hope to meet you on the beautiful campus of Cornell University in the summer of 2025!

COURSES OFFERED (TENTATIVE)
- Introduction to Behavioral & Environmental Economics
This course examines how human behavior impacts economic decisions and how these decisions affect the environment. It combines insights from psychology and economics to explore topics like consumer behavior, environmental policies, and sustainable practices. The course helps students understand how economic incentives and human behavior influence environmental outcomes and what can be done to promote more sustainable choices. - Business Management & Organization
This foundational course introduces students to essential concepts in marketing, accounting, organizational design and management, entrepreneurship, strategy, teamwork, leadership, and ethics. It provides a comprehensive overview of potential business careers and includes significant writing and analytical components. Students will engage in both individual and team-based case study analysis, as well as the evaluation of a U.S. publicly traded corporation. - Big Data & Business Analytics
This course is an introduction to programming with Python for students aiming to enter the world of business analytics. Using business applied cases students will increase decision making efficiency and productivity through a detailed understanding of Python programming languages. Students will also learn how to use a range of Python libraries for data analytics such as NumPy, MatPlotLib, Seaborn, Pandas, and Scikit.

† Admitted applicants will receive an email with an offer letter. They must accept the offer by replying to the email and pay the program fee within 3 weeks after the offer letter was sent. Failure to do so will be considered a decline to the offer, and other applicants will be given the available spots instead.
* If you already have a U.S. Visa, we may accept your application after the regular application deadline.
If you are an international student who does not have a valid U.S. visa, we encourage you to apply sooner than later due to the long wait time for a visa interview appointment at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate.
PROGRAM FEE
The program fee is $5,600, which includes meals and accommodation, class materials, entrance fees to places of interest, and transportation fees for CICER-organized events.
Early bird applicants are offered a $200 discount.
NOTE: Please note that the program fee is non-refundable, except in exceptional cases such as visa denial or a medical emergency. In such cases, students must provide proper documentation by emailing the refund request to cicer@cornell.edu.
REQUIRED APPLICATION MATERIALS
All applicants are required to submit the following materials:
- Completed online application form.
- Personal statement (350 words maximum).
- Official transcript (digital or scanned copy.)
- OPTIONAL: English proficiency exam scores (e.g., SAT, TOEFL, IELTS, DuoLingo).
