Minor in Real Estate
The Undergraduate Real Estate Minor continues to grow in popularity at Cornell. We anticipate over 350 students will enroll in the minor in academic year 2014-2015 with more than 150 students graduating with the minor. The three key components of the minor are curriculum, connections, and career; this holistic approach has proven very successful in attracting both students to the minor and real estate firms to Cornell in search of their next generation of associates and leaders. Each component continues to strengthen; the curriculum is strengthened with the School’s commitment to faculty and a set of courses that develops a depth of understanding of real estate capital markets and investment analysis; the connections are strengthened by a set of co-curricular activities that include the premier case competition for undergrads, ARGUS training, the Hotel Valuation Seminar, and a vibrant undergraduate real estate club. You can read about the club’s activities elsewhere in this newsletter, but as advisor to the club I see the club leadership creating significant opportunities for underclassmen to become connected to the real estate industry in ways that cannot be replicated in the classroom. The club is well on its way to becoming an important institution at Cornell that supports, reinforces, and extends the work of the faculty and career services professionals.
The Graduate Minor in Real Estate is maintaining momentum as we enter the new academic year. Over 25 students are expected to complete the requirements to earn this minor designation. The program brings together students and faculty from several different colleges within the University, providing great variety in experience and perspective to the educational experience.
