Student Engagement

A man gives a presentation to a table of onlookers

The Center for Real Estate and Finance offers a variety of opportunities for students to engage with alumni and industry executives—the first step in building a career—through events, clubs, courses and internships.

The center also offers multiple case competitions, presentations, and informal open sessions with high-level industry executives, as well as receptions for students to network with real estate alumni. With access to real-time industry databases during course study, students are always up on the current real estate trends.

Internships

Current students and CREF advisory board member companies interested in participating in the Student Internship Program should read the criteria and guidelines outlined in the Internships section of the Centers & Institutes homepage.

Real estate and finance courses

A variety of real estate and finance courses are available at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. For current offerings, please visit the university course catalog. In addition, a minor in real estate is available for both undergraduates and graduate students.

Real estate minor

The minor in real estate is available to all undergraduate students enrolled at Cornell University. The program prepares students for a career in commercial real estate and is built around three components: coursework, connections, and careers. Students who minor in real estate have an opportunity to interact with other students across all of Cornell’s schools and have access to a strong alumni network — creating endless possibilities in the real estate industry.

For more information on the undergraduate minor in real estate, freshman and sophomore students are asked to contact their “home” career office; juniors and seniors from all Cornell colleges have limited access to a real estate specialist in the Nolan School of Hotel Administration’s Career Management Office. The real estate minor coordinator can be reached at realestateminor@cornell.edu.

Real estate treks

The center has hosted both domestic and international real estate treks in partnership with the Association Real Estate Council, Cornell Real Estate Club and the Cornell Diversity and Inclusion in Real Estate Club. In the spring semester of 2024, the clubs visited companies in New York City and Boston, MA including IHG, Hines, POAH, TPG, Avison Young, Newmark, PJT Partners, Wells Fargo, Related Companies, J.P. Morgan, and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
