Biography
Yaxuan Chen is an assistant professor of accounting at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, part of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. Her research primarily focuses on the design choices of management control systems, with a special focus on organizational culture as an informal control mechanism and its interaction with formal control systems such as incentive contracting, performance evaluation, personnel controls, and learning.
Chen strives to investigate control problems that are ubiquitous across organizations and highly relevant to practitioners. Her work has been featured in major media outlets including The Economist and The Wall Street Journal. Yaxuan employs multiple research methods including machine learning, statistical analyses of archival data, field experiments, and surveys.
Chen holds a PhD from Harvard University, a MS from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and a BBA from University of Hong Kong.
