EMI Summer Internship

Cornell’s Emerging Markets Institute provides thought leadership on the role of emerging markets and emerging market multinationals in the global economy. The Institute brings together preeminent practitioners and academics from around the world to develop the next generation of global business leaders and create the premier research center on the role of emerging markets in the global economy.

  • Applications: March 15-25, 2025. Please register for our mailing list to receive the application link.
  • Internship duration: June 2-July 25, 2025.
  • Format: Hybrid.
  • Eligibility: Undergraduate and MBA students from Cornell University and Universidad de los Andes in Colombia.
  • This internship is unpaid and incompatible with another full-time internship.
  • MBA students and alumni will offer career coaching sessions.
  • Interns complete a variety of tasks including digital marketing, research, case development, and assist with the organization of the EMI conference. Interns are expected to complete two (or more) different projects including one without a research focus.
  • Interns are expected to attend two weekly (hybrid) meetings: one general team meeting, and one project team meeting.
  • Interns are expected to attend workshops and onboarding meetings the first week of the program.

Overview

Research

You will be part of the EMI research team and assist in the creation of tables and figures for EMI’s annual report. In addition to gaining familiarity with widely used databases, including S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg Terminal, LSEG Refinitiv, Moody’s Orbis, and others, you will build skills in understanding key trends and policy issues in emerging market countries, as well as hone in business writing. The position of research intern is a great learning opportunity for undergraduates interested in bridging the gap between economic theory and its applications, and for students interested in finance and the markets, at large.

Overview

  • Compile statistics through S&P Capital IQ, Bloomberg Terminal (in person only), FT FDI Markets, World Bank, IMF and other databases for analysis in the EMI annual report.
  • Summarize important economic policies and trends in emerging market economies.
  • Work on miscellaneous business style writing projects, with potential for publication on the EMI website and College BusinessFeed.
  • Strengthen your communication and presentation skills via weekly team meetings.
  • Complete/update/compile information for emerging multinationals case studies.

  • Attend mandatory training sessions and workshops.
  • Provide insight to improve EMI’s report and research posts on our social media platforms.

Digital Marketing

As EMI is looking to build a more cohesive brand and wider social media presence, interns will work in small team settings to increase outreach within the Cornell community and beyond, and will help maintain our social media platforms by designing posts and brainstorming new series to feature on our pages. Moreover, interns will help write blogs covering events and conferences the institute partakes in, as well as edit videos and interviews for our YouTube account. This will provide a great opportunity for students who are interested in marketing and are looking to be part of EMI’s growth as we move into the next decade.

Position Overview

  • Develop strategy to maximize outreach within the Cornell community and beyond.
  • Maintain social media platforms by designing and publishing new posts via Canva, and brainstorming/implementing new series ideas.
  • Edit videos and interviews to be featured on social media platforms.
  • Compose blog posts covering events/conferences the institute partakes in, to be featured on the EMI website.
  • Update the EMI and conference websites.
  • Follow up on the case and pitch competition marketing/logistics.
  • Assist with the organization of the EMI conference.
