Biography
Dr. Anyan Qi is a Visiting Associate Professor within the Operations, Technology, and Information Management area of the S.C. Johnson College of Business and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, and an Associate Professor of Operations Management at the Naveen Jindal School of Management, The University of Texas at Dallas. His primary research interests span four growing streams—social responsibility and sustainability, capacity management and resource allocation, procurement mechanisms and contract design, and collaborative projects—within today’s data-rich and complex supply networks. Collectively, these four areas capture the breadth and depth of his work, bringing together a broad range of methodologies—from dynamic programming and game theory to behavioral experimentation and data-driven optimization—to advance both theoretical insight and practical impact in modern supply chains. Dr. Qi has published in leading academic journals, including Management Science (MS), Manufacturing & Service Operations Management (MSOM), Operations Research (OR), and Production and Operations Management (POM). His research has garnered multiple awards, including being named a Finalist in the MSOM Student Paper Competition, a Finalist in the POMS College of Supply Chain Management Student Paper Competition, receiving Honorable Mention in the POMS College of Sustainable Operations Student Paper Competition, being a Finalist in the INFORMS PSOR Best Paper Competition, and earning Third Place in the ISCOM Best Paper Award.
Dr. Qi is also actively engaged in service to the broader academic community through editorial, reviewing, and community leadership roles. He currently serves as Associate Editor for MS, Associate Editor for MSOM, Senior Editor for POM, Department Editor for the Journal of Systems Science and Systems Engineering, and Associate Editor for Decision Sciences. He has reviewed extensively for top-tier journals, such as MS, MSOM, OR, and POM. He has received several service awards, including the Management Science Distinguished Service Award (four times), the Management Science Meritorious Service Award (twice), and the M&SOM Meritorious Service Award (six times) for his service contributions. Dr. Qi also serves as a judge for student paper competitions (e.g., the M&SOM Best Student Paper Competition and the POMS College of Supply Chain Management Student Paper Competition) to help recognize emerging scholars. Furthermore, he is serving as Chair of MSOM Society Supply Chain Management SIG from 2025 to 2027. He has organized and chaired clusters and sessions at major conferences (INFORMS, POMS, MSOM) and co-chaired the MSOM Supply Chain Management SIG Conference in 2024, reflecting his commitment to fostering vibrant scholarly exchange. He frequently serves as a panelist at professional gatherings, where he discusses emerging research trends and shares insights with doctoral students and junior scholars.
Dr. Qi earned his Ph.D. in Technology and Operations from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He also received a Bachelor’s degree in Automation from the School of Information Science and Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University.
