Daniel Lebret

Biography

Daniel Lebret is a teaching professor in real estate finance at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, part of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. He has been at Cornell University since earning his Ph.D. in 2008. His teaching includes undergraduate and graduate courses in real estate finance, financial and statistical modeling, urban economics, securitization and structured finance, and he has coached student teams for real estate finance case competitions.

Lebret’s research focuses on applying a long term perspective to real estate market analysis and urban economics. He examines how careful planning and improved financial and economic policies can reduce local inequalities and support more sustainable land use.

His work aims to identify policies that could be adjusted so short term benefits do not outweigh long term costs. Evaluating these trade offs, including when immediate profits may need to be tempered to achieve more sustainable outcomes, is central to his academic research.
