Biography

James Stapp is an assistant teaching professor of management communication at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management in the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. He brings a diverse background in business and communication, including eight years in private sector management across multiple industries, which informs his practical, applied approach to teaching.

His teaching and research focus on persuasive communication, leadership and management communication, interpersonal communication, business storytelling, presentation skills, the use of technology and AI for effective communication and the science of influence and decision making. Stapp’s work emphasizes helping students and professionals communicate with clarity, confidence and strategic intent.

Actively engaged in scholarly and professional discourse, Stapp presents his work at conferences and consults with Fortune 500 companies, nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Through this work, he helps leaders strengthen their communication skills, navigate complex challenges and articulate ideas that drive action and results. His interests contribute to broader conversations about organizational communication and the evolving role of AI in professional communication.

Stapp remains committed to developing the communication capabilities of current and future business leaders, equipping them to express ideas effectively, build credibility and accomplish their goals.
