We just graduated 31 students from our EMI Fellows program. They have accepted roles which will take them to employers such as McKinsey, Dell Computer, Unilever and JPMorgan. They took with them the experiences, learnings, and connections built through the Emerging Markets Institute. We wish them well and know they will keep the institute in mind as their careers develop.

We have recently expanded our Fellows program to include not only the residential MBA program held in Ithaca, but the Executive MBA programs and the Cornell Tech program. We will be rolling these programs out over the summer months to the Accelerated MBA students plus the other programs as they complete their residential sessions here in Ithaca.

We never pause at the Emerging Markets Institute, and are also making plans for an Investing in the Emerging Markets Roundtable, which will feature Professor Andrew Karolyi, author of “Cracking the Emerging Markets Enigma.” Attendees will also be the participants in the roundtable, as discussion leaders will draw upon the knowledge and expertise of the audience. We will keep the group small in order to best facilitate discussion. We are targeting late July for this event, to be held in the offices of BNY Mellon in New York City.

We are additionally gearing up for our 5th International Conference, to be held on October 13 at the Cornell Club in New York City. This year we will focus on India, and have secured Rustom Desai, MBA ’95, CEO of Corning India, as a keynote speaker. We will be filling out the agenda over the summer with other speakers, moderators and panelists. Sponsorship opportunities still exist. Just contact me and I can arrange.

We had big news to share this past spring. Through the generosity of one of our alumni, Roberto Canizares, B.Eng. ’71, MBA ‘74, we were able to send a team of students to the mai Bangkok Business Challenge, an international case competition organized by the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University in Thailand. The team created a company called UMA Bioseed, which utilized super charged enzymes to eliminate diseases and other pathogens from seeds, thus improving agricultural yields. The team competed against 16 other international teams (out of an original pool of 48 teams) in Bangkok. After two days of pitching, the results were announced – and the team from the Emerging Markets Institute won! More details can be found on our website in articles written by EMI Fellow candidates Chris Kim, MBA ’15 (The Journey to Bangkok) and Manish Reddy, MBA ’15 (The Emerging Markets Institute Interviews the 2015 winning team from the mai Bangkok Business Challenge Sasin 1).
