Biography

Douglass Miller has more than 30 years of industry experience in restaurants, hotels, resorts and education. He has worked across the country, including in Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York City, Hawaii, Santa Barbara, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., and has held positions with Four Seasons Resorts and Hotels, Wyndham Hotel, Marriott and several independent companies.

Miller is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), SUNY Empire State College and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where he earned a master’s degree in hospitality administration. He is an associate teaching professor of food and beverage management at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, part of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. Before joining Cornell, he was a professor of hospitality and service management at the CIA.

He is a Certified Specialist of Spirits (Society of Wine Educators), a Certified Beer Server (Cicerone) and has completed the Introductory Sommelier Course through the Court of Master Sommeliers. Miller has spoken at conferences including Tales of the Cocktail, Craft Brewers Conference, Great American Beer Festival and Menus of Change. He has been interviewed by outlets such as the Associated Press, New York Post, Wall Street Journal and Nation’s Restaurant News, and his cocktails have been published in Liquor.com, USA Today Magazine and AOL. He also served as a content provider and consultant for the CIA’s book Remarkable Service: A Guide to Winning and Keeping Customers for Servers, Managers, and Restaurant Owners.
