Biography
Apisalome Movono, Ph.D. is a senior lecturer at Massey University where he continues his passion for the Pacific through researching and promoting development that is fair and sustainable for future generations. He hails from the village of Buca in the province of Cakaudrove, Fiji. Before joining Massey, he spent 10 years at the University of the South Pacific, serving the 14 member countries of the region. He completed his PhD at Griffith University, in Brisbane Australia after undertaking ethnographic investigations in the tourism dependant communities of the Coral coast, Fiji. He is active conservationist and community development advocate for his people in Fiji and the wider Pacific region. His recently published book of Pacific proverbs, Mana of the Pacific, is one such initiative that seeks to uphold the values of Pacific people whilst ensuring that all profits from the book go directly to resilience building initiatives in the Pacific. Api has also published several papers and articles focussed on tourism, adaptivity and development in the Pacific and is a current recipient of a Marsden Fast-Start Fellowship, Te Apārangi/Royal Society of New Zealand which seeks to bring to life the reimagining of South Pacific tourism.
