Biography

Solomon Haddis Teklehaymanot is a Research Fellow at the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute in Japan. He holds a PhD in Development Economics from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS).
His research focuses on land institutions, structural transformation, and rural development. It emphasizes the importance of land tenure security—especially land certification—in shaping household behavior, gender relations, and economic change in Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, he studies how gender-specific land certification affects marital stability, labor allocation, credit access, and household food security.

Before his current role, he taught at Tokyo International University, Chiba University, and universities in Ethiopia. His work combines rigorous empirical methods with policy-relevant insights to inform strategies for inclusive land governance and rural development.

As a STARS Fellow, he aims to generate evidence supporting gender-equitable land policies and to contribute to broader debates on structural transformation and economic development.
