Biography

Yezihalem Mebrie Gobezie is a PhD candidate in Economics at the University of Verona, Italy, in the School of Economics and Finance. He is an applied microeconomist working at the intersection of development and behavioral economics. His research examines how public policies, early childhood shocks, and social norms shape human capital formation in developing countries, with a focus on education, gender, labor, and health outcomes. He holds an M.Sc. and a B.A. in Economics from Addis Ababa University and has teaching experience in econometrics, microeconomics, and development economics at Haramaya University. His work applies rigorous empirical methods using state-of-the-art quantitative tools. He has presented his research at leading international conferences, including the CSAE Conference 2026 at the University of Oxford.

Research Topic: Do Child Marriage Bans Work? Evidence from Bride Price Societies and Rainfall Shocks in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Research Interests: Public policy Evaluation, Human Capital Formation, Social Norms and their economic effect in the context of human capital.
