Biography

Bill McAleer is managing director and co-founder of Voyager Capital, an early-stage venture firm with more than $525 million under management across five funds focused on technology investments in the Pacific Northwest. He has more than 35 years of experience in investing and senior executive roles in the technology industry.

Voyager Capital has backed more than 75 companies that have generated more than $10 billion in market value. McAleer has served on the boards of 29 companies, including 25 Voyager portfolio companies, with a focus on AI-enabled solutions, cloud software and infrastructure, digital media and mobile technologies. He has guided companies through $5 billion in exit transactions, including several IPOs, and currently serves on the boards of Thoughtexchange and Hiya.

Prior to co-founding Voyager in 1997, McAleer served as managing director at e.liance Partners, advising information technology companies on strategy, venture financing and corporate partnerships. Earlier in his career, he was vice president of finance, chief financial officer and corporate secretary at Aldus, where he oversaw global finance, legal, operations and acquisition activities during a period of significant growth, including the company’s merger with Adobe in 1994.

McAleer also held senior executive roles at Westin Hotels from 1979 to 1987, where he was responsible for global corporate reporting and real estate finance.

He has been active in university and industry organizations, including serving as a Cornell University trustee and on advisory boards for the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, eCornell and the Center for Entrepreneurship. He has also been involved with the University of Washington’s Buerk Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and its innovation advisory board. In addition, McAleer founded the Seattle program for the Creative Destruction Lab and serves on the board of the Seattle Symphony. He previously served on the board and executive committee of Big Brothers Big Sisters and has participated in several technology industry organizations.

McAleer earned a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Cornell University.
