Biography
Michael J. Lee is a Ph.D. candidate in Accounting at Cornell University and is on the 2026–27 academic job market. His research focuses on financial accounting, voluntary disclosure, and corporate investment under uncertainty, with an emphasis on how accounting information shapes corporate investment decisions.
His job market paper, “CAPEX Guidance and Realizable Real Options,” examines firms’ capital expenditure guidance and investment decisions through a real-options perspective. Separately, his coauthored research, “From Green to Green,” has received a revise-and-resubmit decision at the Journal of Accounting Research.
Michael was selected as a 2026 AAA/Deloitte Foundation/J. Michael Cook Doctoral Consortium Fellow and received Cornell’s 2026 Nagesh Gavirneni Outstanding Doctoral Student Award.
Prior to entering the Ph.D. program, Michael worked at PwC. He expects to complete his Ph.D. in 2027.
