Biography
Joseph Fan founded Brighton Management in 1994 as a small hotel management and consulting business, initially operating as its sole employee. The company has since grown to more than 3,800 employees and a portfolio of 59 properties. In 2017 and 2018, Hotel Management Magazine ranked Brighton Management among the Top 30 hotel management companies in the United States.
Recent awards for Brighton Management include recognition for operating the No. 1 Holiday Inn in North America, the No. 1 Ramada in North America, and Hilton’s top sales team for the DoubleTree brand. The company has also earned IHG’s highest honor for guest service quality and satisfaction, Marriott awards for environmental and sustainable practices, Fairfield Inn & Suites recognition for top-performing hotels, and a first‑of‑its‑kind Marriott award for exceptional community impact.
Fan has built philanthropy into the foundation of his business and is a dedicated supporter and sponsor of numerous nonprofit organizations, including Special Olympics, Give Kids the World, Ronald McDonald House Charities, the McKinley Children’s Center, the CHP 11‑99 Foundation and the American Red Cross. Brighton Management contributes to more than 50 charitable events each year.
In the 1990s, Fan began serving as a board director for the Taiwanese Hotel & Motel Association of Southern California and later became the organization’s first second‑generation Taiwanese American president. During his tenure, he founded the Young Adults of THMASC to encourage and inspire youth to pursue careers in hospitality. Fan also serves as a director of the California Lodging Industry Association, a board member of the American Hotel Association, a board member of the Marriott Advisory Council and a board member of the California State University Hospitality & Tourism Alliance Council.
