Peggy R. Odom-Reed

Biography

Peggy Odom-Reed is an associate teaching professor in marketing and management communication at the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration, part of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. She joined the Nolan School (formerly the Hotel School) in 2011. She is one of the founding faculty fellows for the Cornell Institute for Healthy Futures.

Since 2019, Odom-Reed has developed and sustained an academic-industry partnership with hospitality leaders to deliver a business ethics board project aligned with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and its principles of ethics and integrity, agility, and community and connectedness.

Odom-Reed teaches courses in persuasive and ethical business communication and management communication and has delivered leadership and communication coaching at Cornell. To engage students beyond Ithaca, she created an eCornell executive education course, LSM 704 Persuasive Writing, that has reached domestic students from all 50 states and Puerto Rico as well as international students from Canada, Europe, Africa Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Central and South America.

Before earning a doctoral degree in organizational communication from Cornell, Odom-Reed worked as a senior staffing representative at 3M. With expertise in human resources, she has been certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources since 2017.

Odom-Reed’s interdisciplinary, academic background integrates psychology, organizational communication, and organizational behavior. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of West Florida and both a master’s degree (minor in organizational behavior) and doctorate degree in organizational communication from Cornell University. Her research focuses on communication (social) networks, leadership, teams, and distributed collaborative work.
