Biography

Yuan Shi is an assistant professor of management and organizations, with a focus on strategy, at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. He earned a doctorate in strategic management and entrepreneurship from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.

Shi’s research examines the long-term effects of market evaluation processes — including ranking, funding and pricing — on innovation and entrepreneurship. His work spans multiple sectors, including entertainment, technology and venture capital, and has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Strategy Research Foundation.

His research has been published in Administrative Science Quarterly, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Research Policy, Scientometrics and Sociological Science. His work has also been cited by the United Nations, McKinsey Global Institute and media outlets including Harvard Business Review, Bloomberg, The Boston Globe, The Hill and Vox.
