Position Description
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business, created by the Cornell University Board of Trustees in January 2016 began operations on July 1, 2016. The college consists of the university’s three accredited business schools—the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management, the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration.
The college’s leaders, like those of all other academic units at Cornell, benefit from the advice, counsel, and financial support of an advisory group drawn from alumni, parents of current and former students, corporate recruiters and research partners interested in one or more of our three schools, or the University more broadly.
Members of the Leadership Council of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business may serve up to two consecutive three year terms, and after a one year hiatus may be considered to serve again. Each of the three school deans recommend one member of their respective advisory councils to serve in an ex-officio capacity to the College Leadership Council (CLC) to facilitate connectivity between the groups. These three ex-officio members will serve at least one year and no more than a three-year term. The CLC will meet as a whole twice a year in Ithaca, New York, or virtually, with intermittent conference calls as needed.
Responsibilities of Leadership Council Members
Leadership Council members are asked to:
• Regularly attend the council’s two (occasionally three) meetings annually
• Serve as knowledgeable advocates/ambassadors for the SC Johnson College and its three schools, by being conversant in the college’s programs and accomplishments;
• Help the SC Johnson College’s faculty, staff and students connect with businesses, and other entities with relevant mutual interests, especially as related to career opportunities for students and alumni and research potential for faculty;
• Provide financial support to the SC Johnson College, including one or more of its three component schools, personally as well as via connecting college representatives to corporate, foundation, or individual donors. Council members are expected to provide current-use annual fund gifts in an amount that is meaningful to them, as well as to periodically support campaign, capital or endowment initiatives of the college, including support for one or more of its three component schools;
• Provide advice and counsel to SC Johnson College leaders, faculty and staff regarding the college’s academic programs, its research program, and its public service outreach.
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Leadership Council is staffed by the Associate Dean of Alumni Affairs and Development of the college.
