Biography
Meral Kiefer is an expert in finance and accounting, focusing on capital markets, stock exchange operations, securities trades and financial risk management. She has completed
post-doctoral studies in quantitative financial economics, financial econometrics, and financial risk management at Cornell University. She works as a financial risk management consultant.
She founded and was the director of the department of research at the Istanbul Stock Exchange (Borsa Istanbul), where she conducted several projects on sector economics, trading requirements, cross-listing, corporate governance, equity, bonds and derivatives markets, financial crimes, specifically insider trading and market manipulation. She founded and managed Borsa Istanbul’s Library and Data Center. She contributed to the establishment of the Istanbul Settlement and Custody Bank. She was the founder managing editor of the Istanbul Stock Exchange Review (currently known as the Borsa Istanbul Review).
Before returning to Cornell, she worked as an adjunct assistant professor of finance at the Sykes College of Business at the University of Tampa. She worked at the Nolan School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University as an adjunct assistant professor of finance where she courses in investments and portfolio management as well as finance. She also worked as an assistant professor of accounting at SUNY Oneonta. She has been working as a visiting assistant professor of accounting and finance at the School of Business, at Sabanci University.
Her recent publication titled Bank Failures and Mergers and Acquisitions focused on several bank specific accounting and financial indicators in determining the process of bank failures.
