Biography
Paul Clancy is a visiting senior lecturer at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management where he teaches the Corporate Finance Immersion (CFI) practicum. He is also an executive fellow at Harvard Business School, serving as a guest speaker in finance classes and providing support in the joint MS/MBA in Life Sciences program.
Clancy has broad experience in strategic planning, financial management, capital allocation, mergers and acquisitions, business development, and investor relations. He has worked in the biotech industry for 22 years and spent 14 years in the consumer products industry. He served as the chief financial officer for Biogen from 2007-2017 and also served at Alexion Pharmaceuticals from 2017-2019. At Biogen, Clancy oversaw rapid growth in the company as it expanded its products and pipeline. During his tenure, Biogen grew total return to shareholders at a 20 percent compound annual growth rate, the top decile of S&P 500 companies. He worked for PepsiCo for 14 years subsequent to business school.
Clancy has been recognized in the top three of biotech CFOs in the Institutional Investor annual survey in all years from 2011-2020. He was awarded the number five Top CFO in the inaugural ranking of Best CFOs by the Wall Street Journal, across all industries. He serves as a member of the board of directors at four life science companies, including Incyte Pharmaceuticals, Exact Sciences, Agios Pharmaceuticals, and Xilio Therapeutics. He also serves on the finance committee for Catholic Charities of Boston.
Clancy holds an MBA from Columbia University, where he was elected into the Beta Gamma Sigma national honor society and also holds a BS in finance from Babson College. He and his wife reside outside of Boston. They have three children.
