There are a limited number of small and partial merit-based scholarships for our executive MBA programs. Scholarships are granted at the discretion of the admissions committee. You do not need to apply to these scholarships separately—you will be considered for them as part of your application for admission.

The Executive MBA Americas program participates in the Post-9/11 GI Bill® Yellow Ribbon Program. This program is available to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces who are eligible for 100% of the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. The VA considers the EMBA Americas program to be a distance learning program. Consequently, they’ll pay a housing allowance based on 50% of the national average. Please contact the EMBA Americas admissions team for more information about Yellow Ribbon.

You may borrow up to a maximum of $20,500 each academic year through a Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan. Interest rates and terms and conditions for federal loan programs can be found on the U.S. Department of Education website.

Due to modifications to the federal student loan limits in 2026, the federal borrowing limits for students in the Class of 2029 will change.

Cornell University does not offer need-based aid or scholarship support for graduate or professional students. EMBA Americas NY students typically pay for their education with private or federal loans. The loan programs outlined below are available regardless of financial need.

Private loans may be borrowed in place of federal student loan programs and are available directly from various private lending institutions. Interest rates vary based on fixed and variable rate offerings and the borrower’s credit history and credit score. Loan amounts are limited to the published total cost of attendance, as determined by the educational institution, less any other loans, employer sponsorship, or merit scholarships you receive. There are also cumulative borrowing limits, which may affect the amount you qualify to borrow.

A significant amount of your student loan applications will require a credit check; therefore, is imperative that you establish and maintain a positive credit record. You can review your credit report annually using the free Annual Credit Report service.

Finding and reporting private student loans
Cornell does not recommend any lenders. You are encouraged to compare lenders and loan terms to select the loan that best fits your needs. You may visit Johnson’s FASTChoice web tool to view a list of lenders students have used in the past. This interactive database provides loan counseling and basic information about borrowing from private lenders. You must apply directly to the specific lender you are considering. You are free to select any lender, including those not presented through FASTChoice.

Information for international students
International students outside of the United States have the option of borrowing private student loans, but be aware that most private lenders require a U.S. citizen or permanent resident application cosigner. Prodigy Finance and MPower Financing are lenders that do not require a cosigner.

Federal student loans are available to U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents. You may borrow up to the cost of tuition plus the cost of federal loan origination fees. You will need to apply for federal loans each academic year, which includes three terms: summer, fall, and spring. Typically, students enrolled in the Executive MBA Americas program are working professionals who do not need to borrow funds to cover living expenses. If you would like to borrow additional student loan funds for living expenses, please email Johnson’s Financial Aid Office for details.

In order to be considered for federal student loans, you must have accepted your offer of admission to the EMBA Americas program, completed the FAFSA, and completed and submitted Johnson’s federal loan request form outlined below.

How to apply for federal student loans

1. Complete the required Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the FAFSA code 002711 for Cornell University.
2. Complete the Federal Graduate PLUS Loan Application.

Loan award notifications are emailed to your Cornell University email account. All financial aid (loans and merit-based scholarships) will be applied as a pending aid credit until the aid source can be disbursed each term.

Once your federal student loans have been processed, you will need to sign Master Promissory Notes (MPNs) and take required entrance counseling here. Make sure to complete a separate MPN for each type of federal loan you intend to borrow.
