At the Nolan School, a steady stream of events engages your interests and brings learning to life. Guest lectures from leading industry practitioners, hackathons focused on real-world challenges and themed dinners at Establishment — the student-run restaurant — are just a few of the many ways to explore current topics and gain hands-on experience in hospitality.

Enjoy a longstanding Friday tradition at the Nolan School. The Dean’s Distinguished Lecture Series features leading hospitality professionals sharing insights on career paths, management, business strategy and industry trends. Join fellow Hotelies, faculty and industry leaders for this nearly century-long experience.

Hospitality Hackathon

Work with innovative classmates from across the Nolan School and Cornell to solve real-world hospitality challenges — from improving the customer experience to delivering more effective service solutions. These multidisciplinary hackathons bring together students with expertise in industry, strategy, technology and engineering, offering a hands-on way to apply your strengths and contribute to meaningful results.

Themed dinners at Establishment

At Establishment, the Nolan School’s student-run restaurant, student teams take over management for an evening to plan, produce and serve a dinner built around their own concept. Past themes have included Down by the Bay, Tuscan trattoria, Seoul cuisine, It’s Greek to Me and other creative experiences. These dinners are part of the required HADM 3350 Restaurant Management course.

Nolan School clubs and organizations

Explore your professional interests through the Nolan School’s student clubs and organizations. These groups bring together undergraduate and graduate students and span areas such as sales and marketing, food and beverage, real estate and entrepreneurship. With guest speakers, industry tours and service opportunities, they offer valuable ways to learn from peers and alumni, build your network and develop leadership skills — and even take on leadership roles of your own.

There’s much more to airline and cruise travel than buying a ticket and boarding a plane or ship. Explore the many facets of these complex industries, where every detail of the customer experience — from pricing to service delivery — is thoughtfully designed. Expand your interests across operations, marketing, finance, engineering, technology and other business functions beyond land.

American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) Student Chapter

The Nolan School’s chapter of this nationwide organization offers a valuable way to explore one of the core pillars of hospitality while building your professional network. The AH&LA student chapter fosters meaningful connections between Cornell students and industry leaders.

Cornell Hotel Society, Collegiate Chapter (CHS, CC)

A powerful hub for building connections with student and alumni Hotelies, CHS, CC serves as the umbrella organization for all Nolan School clubs and organizations. As the largest student group in the Nolan School, with more than 900 members, it focuses on expanding networking opportunities and encouraging involvement in extracurricular hospitality pursuits. All Nolan School students automatically become members upon matriculation.

Share your passion for hospitality real estate — from finance and banking to development. Connect with like-minded students to explore industry trends, discuss current challenges and build relationships with influential real estate professionals.

Hotelies Serving Society (HS2)

This club encourages Nolan School students to apply their lifelong commitment to service within the context of social issues and community engagement. Members identify volunteer opportunities where they can put their hospitality knowledge and skills into action to make a meaningful impact. HS2 was formerly known as Hotelies Volunteering Today.

The Grid

Have a passion for design? With its focus on the customer experience, hospitality is one of the most design-driven industries, and The Grid offers a creative outlet for students to explore the intersection of hospitality and design. Through workshops, guest speakers, company visits and collaborative projects, members bring ideas to life and expand their creative and professional skills.

Women Leadership in Hospitality

Gain insight into the challenges and opportunities facing women leaders in hospitality through this club, which provides education, resources and support for success. With guest speakers, networking events and a one-on-one mentorship program, members build knowledge and meaningful connections. WLIH fosters a supportive environment where young professionals can engage in dialogue, ask questions and work together to challenge stereotypes and break the glass ceiling.

Cornell University National Restaurant Association

The Cornell University National Restaurant Association brings together students, alumni and industry leaders with a shared interest in food and beverage. This club fosters collaboration among like-minded professionals to expand culinary knowledge and build strong professional networks. Members learn from one another while exploring and celebrating the culinary world. The organization was formerly known as the Epicurean Society.

Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI)

Bring your problem-solving skills and energy to this club, which helps hotels and their partners strengthen branding and marketing strategies. As part of the global HSMAI organization, the Cornell chapter runs Vantage Brand Consulting, a student-led consultancy that provides hands-on experience by working with real clients to build their businesses while supporting the community.

Hotelie Entrepreneurs (HE)

Explore hospitality-focused entrepreneurship in HE, where you’ll bring your ideas to life and develop the skills to turn them into reality. With industry-leading entrepreneur speakers, visionary insights and hands-on workshops, this club empowers you to build your business acumen and think creatively about the future of hospitality.

National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH)

Cornell’s chapter of this national nonprofit supports minority students as they advance their hospitality careers through access to resources, tools and industry connections. NSMH partners with organizations around the world to promote diverse, inclusive and supportive workplaces.

The 180

Produced by Hotelies for Hotelies, The 180 is a communications platform where students share their perspectives on the Nolan School and Cornell culture through an ongoing blog and annual print publication. Celebrating the community’s diversity, it provides a space for student voices while highlighting and connecting Nolan School clubs and organizations.
