Hotel Food Waste Report

The Food Waste Benchmarking Study builds on existing food waste initiatives by the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index (CHSB), the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It aims to provide a comprehensive overview of current food waste management practices, the state of data disclosure on food waste performance, and the wide-ranging impacts food waste has within the U.S. hospitality industry.

Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index 2024

Cornell’s Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), in partnership with Greenview, supports the Cornell Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking Index (CHSB), an industry-led global data initiative launched in 2013. This initiative enables hotels worldwide to calculate their carbon footprint and benchmark their energy, water, and carbon emissions efficiently and affordably, drawing on a dataset of over 27,000 hotels. Major hotel brands, operators, and owners participate in the CHSB, representing 1,072 geographies across 83 countries, 84 regions, 709 market areas, and 185 climate zones. The CHSB report is authored by Eric Ricaurte and Rehmaashini Jagarajan.
