Noteworthy: US News ranks Dyson No. 7, Cornell No. 14
The Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management’s undergraduate business program earned high marks in U.S. News & World Reports’ annual ranking of colleges and universities, moving up two spots to No. 7. Meanwhile, Cornell University ranked No. 14 on the list of best national universities, advancing one spot from last year.
“I am proud to see the Dyson School ranked as one of the top 10 undergraduate business programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report,” said Dean Lynn Wooten. “The Dyson School is unique not only because it is shared between two schools—the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences—but also because we have remained true to our land-grant legacy, offering students excellent academic programs, co-curricular activities, and engaged learning opportunities.”
Dyson shares the No. 7 spot in U.S. News’ rankings with Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Virginia, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In other business specialties, Cornell ranked No. 10 in real estate programs for the second consecutive year and it ranked No. 11 for quantitative analysis.
“Our motto is Our business is a better world, and it is a distinct characteristic that can be seen, heard, and felt throughout Warren Hall, across Cornell’s campus, and in our local communities,” Wooten said. “Dyson’s distinguished faculty and staff, as well as our active network of world-class alumni, believe in helping our students to become thought leaders and world changers.”
The U.S. News undergraduate business school rankings are based solely on the judgments of deans and senior faculty at peer institutions. In spring 2017, U.S. News surveyed deans and senior faculty at each of the undergraduate business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and asked them to rate the quality of all programs on a scale from 1 (marginal) to 5 (distinguished). Of those surveyed in 2017, 38.4 percent responded and U.S. News used the two most recent years’ responses to calculate weighted average scores of programs in both categories.
