Sustainable Tourism Asset Management Program (STAMP)

Tourism is one of the world’s largest sectors, and destinations face real pressure from growing visitor demand. When destinations don’t actively protect their environmental and social assets, both degrade—harming local communities while undermining long-term economic viability.

People gathered on a point overlooking a body of water.

We engage the tourism industry to change this

We produce research and frameworks that make the business case for sustainable management, convene stakeholders around shared challenges, and build the capacity of businesses and destinations to implement solutions. Through applied research, professional training, and direct technical support, we help destinations develop sustainable tourism models where the cost of managing critical destination assets is built into the entire tourism economy.

Our 2019 report, Destinations at Risk: The Invisible Burden, published with support from the Travel Foundation, underpins this work.

How we do this

Applied research

We produce the research, tools and frameworks that destination managers and governments need to manage their destinations as strategic assets. Our work includes tourism market research, sustainable supply chain development, data-informed tourism planning, sustainable infrastructure assessment and tourism governance analysis.

Industry engagement and convenings

We convene focused conversations on tourism’s toughest challenges, bringing together experts, practitioners, and policymakers who wouldn’t otherwise be in the same room to spark honest dialogue and new opportunities for collective action.

Capacity building and technical support

Through structured, cohort-based programs and direct technical assistance, we help businesses and destinations build the practical skills and networks they need to implement sustainable tourism models and adapt them to their specific contexts.
