Each year, the Churchill Award recognizes an individual’s exceptional contribution to marketing research. The recipient of the award is selected by a group of past winners, as well as current and past editors and co-editors of the AMA Journal of Marketing.

Vithala R. Rao is the Deane Malott Professor of Management and professor of marketing and quantitative methods at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. He holds masters degrees in mathematical statistics from the University of Bombay, and in sociology from the University of Michigan, and a PhD in applied economics and marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Rao has published more than 135 papers spanning several topics and areas. He has been published in the Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Management Science, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Consumer Research, among others.

“Vithala is recognized globally as one of the foremost empirical researchers in marketing,” said Soumitra Dutta, dean of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. “Over the course of an exceptionally distinguished career, he has published a range of path-breaking papers and taught a number of today’s premier scholars. We, his Cornell colleagues, take great pride in this richly deserved recognition of Vithala’s many contributions to the profession.”
