Professor of operations, technology, and information management at the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management

Academic focus

Garrett van Ryzin joins the Johnson School with an academic focus on algorithmic pricing, demand modeling, and stochastic optimization.

Experience

Most recently, van Ryzin was chair of the Decision, Risk and Operations Division at Columbia University, Graduate School of Business. His academic background includes a PhD in operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an SM in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a BS in electrical engineering from Columbia University.

Fun facts

In his spare time, van Ryzin enjoys outdoor adventures (skiing, rock climbing, biking) and running. He played bass guitar in a band for two years before going to college and still loves music.
