Elena Veale, MBA ’24
Major/Program: 2-year MBA
Doing the greatest good is a big part of being a Cornellian. How will you carry this into your career and life after Cornell?
At Johnson, I’ve learned the value of ethical leadership, especially through courses like Ethical Decision Making in Management. Now, as I enter private wealth management, I recognize ethics as fundamental. Upholding ethical principles isn’t just about professional success; it’s about fostering trust, transparency, and accountability in every decision for the greater good.
What is the most valuable thing you learned in your time at Cornell?
Being at Johnson was significant for me as it was the first time I was out in a professional setting as a queer woman. This experience taught me that embracing who I am is not only empowering but also fosters genuine connections and builds trust. In the future, I will carry this lesson with me, striving to be true to myself in all aspects of my life and embracing authenticity as a cornerstone of my personal and professional journey.
What will you always remember about your time at Cornell?
Johnson’s cultural events, like Diwali, Carnival, and Lunar New Year celebrations, are a highlight for me. These events offer a unique opportunity for everyone to come together, share their cultures, and have a great time. The celebrations are super fun and are a testament to our diverse community.
What are you most looking forward to after graduation?
Two years of business school provided me with invaluable time for self-reflection, allowing me to gain clarity on who I am and what I want for my future. Johnson gave me the space to reflect on my identity and aspirations, shaping me into the person I am today. After graduation, I’m most excited about the opportunity to take my newly found personal and professional confidence to hit the ground running in the workforce.
